The wages will rise 2% a year for 4 years, with an additional 1.5% on July 1, 2013 and 1% on the last day of the contract (Sept. 30, 2014). Meanwhile, health care premiums co-shares will rise from 6 to 7% on July 1, 2011, to 9% on July 1, 2013 and to 12% on the last day. A committee will be convened to work on job training and job preservation. With more and more job applications only being accepted online, the public library is becoming the center of most American’s job searches.<br /><br />7.State Library Agencies reported in November 2009 that 77 percent of states cut funds that support local public libraries, which has meant layoffs, staff furloughs, and forced retirements. But this experienced Library unionist (AFSCME 3092) would point to a historical record of reduced staff turnover with unionization, esp in "para" areas like circ where work is more physical. Increased turnover means increased training & orientation costs, and lowers staff morale.
