Representatives from the Anchorage School District and the Anchorage Education Association will discuss contract negotiations Tuesday at district headquarters, officials say.
This marks the first formal meeting between both sides since the end of May, when a tentative agreement was reached but voted down 2-to-1 after it was presented to teachers at a June 5 general membership meeting.
..."We're making ourselves available any and every day between today and Aug. 17, when teachers report back to their classrooms to get ready for the new school year," said Ron Fuhrer, president of the AEA, which represents more than 3,400 of the district's teachers, librarians, school nurses, counselors and occupational and physical therapists. "That includes weekends - which should tell you how committed we are to achieving a fair contract before school starts this fall."
