An 82-year-old book bindery, housed in the basement of the Vancouver Public Library and the last fully operational bindery in a public library in Canada, is at risk of being shut down in two weeks when the library board considers a recent recommendation to outsource the service....Other library staff, however, and the staff union blame pressure from a city trying to cut costs for the 2010 Olympics.
"We definitely know that the Olympics are driving a lot of cuts to public services," said Alex Youngberg, president of the library staff union, CUPE local 391. "We've been told from library management that big cuts are coming."
