EAST HANOVER TWP. – Several dozen members of the union representing teachers and other employees at the Hanover Park Regional High School District demonstrated before the Board of Education meeting Wednesday, Jan. 10, at the district office at 75 Mount Pleasant Ave.Union members were non-confrontational, but expressed impatience with the pace of negotiations. Many carried picket signs reading, “We care about our students” or “Settle now.”
Although the contract setting salaries, benefits and schedule requirements for about 250 members of the Hanover Park Regional Education Association (HPREA) expired last June 30, the union members have continued to work under its provisions.
The HPREA represents about 160 teachers, guidance counselors, librarians, nurses, and the child study team; 16 secretaries; six athletics trainers; two instructional aides; 38 bus drivers, and 23 custodians, maintenance and grounds workers.
