Vallejo (CA) Teachers Union Seeks Raise & Better Benefits

The Vallejo teachers union on March 5 demanded a 7 percent raise, lower class sizes and fully paid health benefits in a new contract proposal [includes librarian].

The Vallejo Education Association (VEA) is the exclusive representative of all the certificated employees in the Vallejo City Unified School District. VEA is a member of the California Teachers Association and the NEA.

The school district is proposing no raises and almost no changes to health benefits, asking to keep much of the current agreement in place.

The two sides swapped initial proposals for a new three-year deal at Vallejo City Unified School District board meeting. The teachers' contract expires June 30.
