Protestors marched around the college displaying a tray of monkey nuts – “Nuts to Cuts, We Don’t want peanuts” – and talked about how they looked forward to the day of action on 9 June.
Further education staff ranging from lecturers to cleaners will stage protests across England ahead of crucial talks aimed at resolving a pay dispute.Unions representing 250,000 lecturers, learning support staff, cleaners, managers, caterers, librarians, security and lab technicians are seeking a wage rise of 6%, or £1,500, whichever is greater, and have rejected a 2.5% offer.
College employers and negotiators from six trade unions will try to settle the latest pay dispute to hit further education. Unions representing lecturers and non-teaching staff are demanding a 6 per cent rise (or a minimum of £1,500) while employers have only been willing to offer 2.5 per cent.
Includes members from five further education trade unions: UNISON, University and College Union (UCU), GMB, UNITE, and the Association of Teachers and Lectures (ATL.)
